With Earth Day 2023 fast approaching, we felt that it was only appropriate to use the month of April to highlight films that focus on the environment, ecological preservation, and the science and work being undertaken to improve the state of our natural environs. Our EARTH DAY collection includes six documentaries that level their gaze on everything from the North Dakota Oil Boom, to the development of CRISPR technology, and the research of teenage scientists trying to address climate change.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, Films We Like has curated a collection of some of our favourite films that are directed by women and focus on the narratives of women from around the world. Our #ByTheWomenWeLove collection highlight a few of the countless and immeasurable cinematic achievements and contributions to film made by women over the course of the medium’s more than century long history. This collection includes docs about the women that have shaped cinema and the social and cultural movements of the 20th century, and biopics, dramas and comedies about women navigating the complex experiences and challenges they face. Happy International Women’s Day 2023!
In honour of Black History Month, we have decided to curate a collection of films that celebrate Black filmmakers and Black narratives. These films highlight the the immense talent and unmatched output of leading black creatives. From writers and directors shaping contemporary cinema, to musicians and artists that have left an indelible impact on culture at-large, these films emphasize the boundless and enduring impact that Black folks have made throughout the world.
For December, we have decided to highlight our favorite titles that we have acquired and released in 2022. Including impactful films from prolific auteurs, first time features from brilliant new directors, and incisive and touching docs and arthouse hits, our #LookingBack collection is bound to excite and challenge filmgoers from all walks and tastes.
Over the last 19 years Films We Like has released hundreds of great films. That has us wondering , what are our team’s all-time favourite Films We Like titles? For November, we have curated a list of films that include each of our team members favourite flicks from the FWL catalogue . Our #TeamFavourites collection highlights films that are not only as diverse as the Films We Like catalogue itself, but as wide ranging as our team members’ tastes and motion-picture preferences.
With fall suddenly in the air, and the change of seasons upon us, who can’t help but feel a little nostalgic? As we move from summer to autumn, and we yearn for longer days and warmer weather, we have curated a collection of films that highlight this wistful feeling. Our #Nostalgia collection includes titles from by gone eras, and contemporary films that take us back to a places, times and experiences of the past.
It’s September and that means one thing….. it’s #TIFFTime! The team at Films We Like is always excited when TIFF rolls around and our hometown becomes the epicentre of international cinema, but this year we are over the moon, with four of our films premiering and screening at the festival!
This month, Films We Like is going #OnTheRoad: highlighting films in transit, films that travel and move with us, and films about the very act of going from one place to another. It's time for us to hit the road!

Now that summer is getting into full swing, we can all start planning our warm-weather getaways, or at least start dreaming about them.
