In 2003, a group of eight Rhode Islanders secretly built and lived in an apartment inside a bustling shopping mall—undetected—for four years. What began as a bold experiment turned into a profoundly personal space, capturing the spirit of community, rebellion, and creative defiance. Filmed extensively by the residents themselves, Secret Mall Apartment is a wildly original, thought-provoking exploration of found family and the meaning of “home.”
