For Immediate Release – Films We Like has acquired the Canadian rights to Afire by famed German auteur Christian Petzold which won the Silver Berlin Bear this year at the Berlin International Film Festival where it had its world premiere. Afire was the sixth Petzold film to play in competition at Berlin and casts award-winning actress Paula Beer who stars in Petzold’s Undine and Transit.
The comedy-drama revolves around four young people who are thrown together unexpectedly in a remote holiday home by the Baltic Sea against the backdrop of advancing forest fires. Savina Petkova of The Playlist wrote, “Afire is the uncompromising work of a master not only on conceptual and stylistic levels but also in terms of his emotional politics.”
