Films We Like is proud to announce the Canadian acquisition of Soumsoum, The Night of the Stars, the latest feature from acclaimed Chadian filmmaker Mahamat-Saleh Haroun (Dry Season, A Screaming Man).
The film premiered in Competition at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival, where it was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize for Best Film.
Set in the dramatic landscape of the Ennedi desert, Kellou, a young woman from a nearby village, is troubled by visions that isolate her from her community. Her life changes when she meets Aya, an outcast rejected by the villagers. What begins as a fragile connection deepens into a powerful bond — one that challenges the traditions and fears that surround them.
As suspicion turns to hostility, Kellou must choose between the safety of belonging and the courage to stand beside Aya. In defending their friendship, she confronts her own people — and claims a freedom neither of them has ever known.
Running time: 101 minutes
Country: Chad, France
Language: French, Chadian Arabic
