Films We Like Acquires “DEAR COMRADES!” a film by Andrei Konchalovsky

Films We Like is happy to announce the acquisition of the Canadian rights to the powerful and stunning black-and-white film DEAR COMRADES! directed by Andrei Konchalovsky, winner of the Special Jury Prize at the VENICE FILM FESTIVAL and Russia’s official entry to the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.

In 1962 in a provincial town in the south of the USSR, Lyudmila, a devout Communist Party official and idealistic veteran of WWII, disapproves of anything she perceives as anti-Soviet sentiment. Together with other local Party officials, she is taken by surprise by a strike at the local factory, in which her own daughter is taking part. As the strike spirals dangerously out of control, Lyudmila begins a desperate search for her daughter, witnessing curfews, mass arrests, and the authorities’ ruthless attempts to cover up state violence.

Lyudmila’s once unquestioning faith in the party line is shaken by her growing awareness of its human toll, upending the beliefs she once held dear.
